This is a measure of data over time.
Normally a web host will impose a
data transfer limit on any site you
host with them - this will usually
be measured in GBs per month. This
is equal to about 40,000 page views
if the pages are about 25k each.

dedicated server is a server that is
owned by a web host, connected to
the internet and leased to a
customer for their use and their use
only. This is often how some smaller
web hosts start out. |

DNS |

(Domain Name Server) - A computer
running a program that converts
domain names into IP addresses and
vice versa. Domain Name Servers
(also known as Name Servers) are the
backbone of the Internet.

Domain |
|
A domain name is the
human translation of
an IP address (see
IP address). Domain
names were created
to make it easier
for humans to
remember the
location of places
on the Internet.
Also referred to as
the domain name.

The process of
transferring data
from a remote
computer to a local
computer. When you
copy a file from a
computer on the
Internet to your
computer, you are
"downloading" that
file. |

The term DS1 refers
to a fiber optic
line that carries
data at a rate of
1.55 Mbps. It is the
digital version of a
T1 (see T1) so is a
better quality

The term DS3 refers to a

carries data at a rate
of 45 Mbps and it is the
digital version of a T3
(see T3) so is a better
quality service.

DSN |
|
A DSN is
an inherent system file
that is part of Windows
ODBC (Open Database
Connectivity) that
allows you to access
your database using a
name rather than the
physical system path. |
