Microsoft Outlook
Express
Walkthrough
How to configure Outlook Express to download your
email
|
|
|
- Open Outlook Express, if you do not have it installed
on your computer, you can install it with the Windows CD.
- Go to the Tools menu at the top, then click on Accounts.
Then press Add, then Mail.
- Enter the desired name (e.g. John Smith), and click Next.
- Enter the email address in the following form and click Next.
- E-mail Server Names: For the POP3 field, the server should be in
the form mail.yourdomain.com, and the SMTP should also be mail.yourdomain.com.
There are known issues with the SMTP server, in which certain Internet Service
Providers (ISP's) block the outgoing port 25. In this particular situation, you
should contact your ISP about their SMTP server. Then press Next.

- Internet Mail Logon:
In the Account Name field, the format should be username@
domainname.com. Then enter your password, and click Next,
then click Finish.
- Server Authentication:
Go to Tools from the top menu, then go to Accounts. Click
on the newly created mail account and then click on Properties.
Go to the Servers tab, and there will be a checkbox that says
"My server requires authentication." This box should be checked.
- Verifying Port Numbers:
The last thing that needs to be done is verifying that you have
the correct outgoing and incoming ports. The outgoing port should
be port 25, and the incoming port should be port 110. Also, the
checkboxes that say "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)"
under both outgoing and incoming mail should be unchecked.
